I’m a math and personal finance teacher, and advisor for the outdoor club.
Prior to teaching in the classroom, I worked as an environmental educator leading mountain biking and kayaking day trips. I led outdoor education trips in the United States and abroad, continuing my education by training with the Nova Scotia Sea School and the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School.
My mission is to collaborate with other passionate educators to strengthen public education by teaching meaningful lessons that increase students’ curiosity and interest. Additionally, I believe that education strengthens our democracy by building collective strength out of differences.
Another objective is to keep noticing things in our environment, be it a human-built city or a forest in Madagascar. Part of noticing is realizing what makes our lives possible, like transportation, food, clean water, and air.
Also, phenomena happen every day right over our heads and under our noses, whether we sense it or not. That’s why I write, that’s why I teach, and that’s why I explore the world and my backyard. If we notice what is happening around us every day, and appreciate the simple life, we may take care not to sacrifice the things that matter most for the things that matter least.
